Vedette Gavin is a public health leader and Case Western Reserve University instructor who has built successful community interventions to stem disparities. She is currently a Sheila C. Johnson Leadership Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government’s Center for Public Leadership. Prior to Harvard, Vedette led Healthy Eating Active Living, an award-winning community intervention engaging 2,200 residents of three Cleveland-area neighborhoods. Her work has been recognized by the American Public Health Association, and she has consulted governments in several states and the UK.
Venture: New Majority Community Labs is empowering communities of color to identify and solve their own challenges using big data and community engagement tools. NMCL recruits and trains residents to gather data about their communities, share it with their neighbors, and launch community-derived and funded solutions to their civic challenges.
