Joaquin Viquez Arias

Joaquin Viquez, a Costa Rican native, developed a passion for waste management amidst his agricultural upbringing. He holds a degree in agricultural engineering and a Master’s Degree in environmental science and engineering. With an MBA from the University of Oxford complementing his academic background, Joaquin’s career focuses on circular innovation, aiming to extract value from waste. He co-founded a startup producing methane from manure for small farmers and now leads ByProducts, recovering phosphorus from wastewater for sustainable fertilizer production. Alongside his entrepreneurial pursuits, Joaquin teaches engineering economics and entrepreneurship at Texas Tech University. He also operates a consulting firm specializing in real estate, development, and permitting. Outside of work, Joaquin enjoys hiking, trail running, and gardening, cherishing his role as a family man with his two young boys.
