Brian Turyabagye

Brian is the Co-Founder and CEO of MamaOpe Medicals, a MedTech startup that developed a device that complements the assessment skills of clinicians during the detection of vital signs of respiratory infections. He holds a Degree in Telecommunications Engineering from Makerere University with over 3 years of IT experience in the banking sector.

His invention (MamaOpe) emerged as the winner of the ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) ISHOW Kenya 2022, Pitch@Palace Africa 2017 winner, and runners up in the Big Ideas competition (University of Berkeley 2016) under the global health category. He currently serves as a judge and mentor of the Big Ideas competition, and also a judge at the Africa Prize for Engineering competition by the Royal Academy of Engineering. He was identified as a Goalkeeper by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for his work that is driving progress towards Global Goals. He is consulted by government ministries, institutions, and private companies to design and integrate nationwide and global software systems in the health, agriculture, and energy sectors.

Brian loves to dig into customer problems and solve them with modern technology. He creates, scales, and optimizes business portfolios that matter. He enjoys applying human-centered design and design thinking principles to create innovative solutions and business models geared toward growth. He is constantly observing how people meet their daily needs, obsessing over changing consumer sentiments, and analyzing disruptive business models in a bid to create ventures with a positive impact on people, organizations, and society at large.
